If there’s one thing from the latter part of fashion month which would have exhausted and unamused show-goers anticipating with bated breath, it would be Karl Lagerfeld’s transformation of the Grand Palais into a whole new Chanel world. Over the years, we had a supermarket, brasserie, art gallery to IT center. Each transported us to a different world, but it had been firmly terrestrial — till now.

This season, Karl put on the cloak of Major Lagerfeld and revamped the space into Chanel Ground Control. He let his 9-year-old godson, Hudson Kroenig, push the red button to blast off a branded rocket ship 33 feet in the air to the tune of, why of course, Rocket Man — perhaps orchestrating the house’s most breathtaking moment yet.

Not even frow-ers Cara Delevingne, Pharell Williams and Lily Rose-Depp were immune to gushing over the explosive climax. Kudos to you, Lagerfeld, for incredible showmanship season after season.

Prior to the surprise lift-off, Chanel space cadets roamed around in familiar classics with a twist of ‘60s space-age futurism: galactic tweed suits and metallic dresses topped off with pearly headbands, or given a leg up with starry footwear. Our main eye candy? No second-guessing needed, the rocket ship sling-on bag tops our next season covet list. For sure.
