Meet the Gabrielle. Issued by the storied house of Chanel, this handbag is monikered after its hallowed founder, Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel. The fearless trailblazer was a true-blue rebel and a time-transcending classic at the same time. She chose simplicity over excess, comfort over appearance, and intuition over principles — and that’s exactly what the Gabrielle is all about.
The Gabrielle made its debut appearance in Chanel’s futuristic spring/summer 2017 runway show (remember those wacky, tweed-clad Chanel-bots?) lightly swung or coolly clasped by the tech-savvy summer girls dreamed up by Karl Lagerfeld. Then again in the romantic Chanel Métiers d’Art Pre-Fall 2017 show held at The Ritz.
Moulded from plushly aged calfskin into a quilted body with a smooth base, the Gabrielle is available in black or white or bicolours of black-white, navy-black or beige-black. It can be worn in three different ways — either over the shoulder, across the body or both at the same time, with the chain slung over one shoulder and then diagonally over the other.
The hobo version has three formats of a backpack (show above), a large shopper and a supple purse contained in a rigid half-case. With an ultra-light body and supple space, the Gabrielle is easily your daily go-to. It’s soon to be released in boutiques come end March 2017 with prices ranging from S$4,420 for the backpack to S$6,430 for a purse in exotic python leather.
Fronting the forthcoming campaign set to be released in mid-March are none other but Chanel’s favourite faces: Kristen Stewart, Cara Delevingne, Caroline de Maigret and Pharell Williams. You’ll have to hang tight a bit longer for the star-studded campaign drop, but in the interim, have a taste of it by the cheeky short videos of these personalities’ doing their take on pronouncing the name that represents more than just a revolution.
