Dolce & Gabbana just keeps hitting the nail on it’s head with their eyewear designs. Last season, they gave us the gold filigree collection which we featured here on The Fashionide and this season they killed it once again with the Mosaico.
This limited edition eyewear is intricate to say the least. Honouring the traditions of Italian craftsmanship, the brand has for the first time applied the art of micro mosaic to its eyewear. The process itself finds its roots in ancient Roman culture where the technique of micro mosaic, or filato minute mosaic, requires the skillful spinning of Murano glass to create tiles that are much smaller and thinner than those used in classical mosaics.
The micro tiles are then delicately laid by the hands of artisans to create these floral compositions so well loved by Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, themes that are deeply embedded in the DNA of the brand. Altogether there are over thirty different filato designs developed to make these leaves, pistils, and petals of the flower which you see on the golden framing. The result is a true inimitable “masterpiece” expressing the most refined in premium luxury. But alas due to very limited quantities distributed worldwide, we won’t be seeing any of the pieces stocked in Singapore.
