Karl Lagerfeld has been looking to put his stamp on our tiny island recently, what with all that buzz surrounding his choice to unveil the latest Chanel Cruise collection at our very own Dempsey early last month. And why wouldn’t we want that? He can stamp away for all he wants, for we know that Lagerfeld’s touch is as good as gold, leaving a sprinkling of fairy dust in his wake.
The Kaiser’s latest collaboration is with Brazilian brand Melissa, of plastic shoe fame. Although the capsule collection is not exclusive to Singapore, you’ll still be glad to know that it’s going to be available here. Roping in golden girl of the moment Cara Delevingne as the face of this collaboration, the result is playful, fun, and a celebration of Brazilian joie de vivre.
Creating two new designs and lending an update two two existing ones, the Melissa Glam + Karl Lagerfeld is an update of a pointed ballerina flat gone futuristic with an applique of three transparent half-spheres.
The Melissa + Karl Lagerfeld and Melissa Ginga + Karl Lagerfeld aren’t really designs that I might naturally gravitate toward. But for lack of a better description, somehow, in the contrasting curves and severe square front, the essence of Lagerfeld’s austerity is captured.
And then there’s the one that everyone’s going to have their eye on – the Melissa Incense + Karl Lagerfeld. Classic shiny black pump from the front, glittery ice-cream cone on the heel from the back. ‘Nuff said.
As for me, with all that erratic weather and passing showers going on these days, plastic’s just about the way to go.
