“For me, in a weird way, it’s like, they’re kind of like, the liberty of Ibiza,” expounded Jonathan Anderson on Paula’s, the legendary boutique that reached its cult status in the ‘80s and ‘90s with the likes of Donna Summer, Freddie Mercury and Valentino as frequenters. Located in the heart of Ibiza’s old town, Anderson had his first encounter with the boutique as a kid on family trips to the Balearic island. Now as Loewe’s 32-year-old creative director, he revisits his childhood haunt with a patchwork zest.
Working with Armin Heinemann, the German-born co-founder and print mastermind behind Paula’s eclectic floral prints, a selection of original prints from the boutique’s archive are reborn into a summer capsule collection of one-of-a-kind tops, skirts, dresses and heck yes, denim, one can’t fail to recognise as Loewe’s. Think: hippie-cool kimono dress printed with schools of lavender parrots perched on golden branches, hobo-chic boyfriend jeans patched up with pieces of Ibizan aplomb, or puff-sleeved dresses featuring at least four floral prints. The best part? Loewe’s iconic Puzzle bag, Flamenco Knot Bag and T Pouch get the Paula’s update, too. So give that “more is more” adage a go, and wear your holiday head to toe.
