Ahhh… Cruise Collections, coinciding with the times of the year when the wealthy cross all meridians across the globe to avoid the gloomy winters back home, as if it were a mere inconvenience. Like Catherine Deneuve tanned and bleach blonde is the Vuitton girl from Louis Vuitton’s Cruise 2013 collection, all luxurious and exotic, but still staunchly urban at the core. Silhouettes were especially relaxed, with full-length skirts for daytime and calf-length bermudas, some fitted, some flowing, some culottes. I loved how the jacquard shorts paired with a matching jacket become a new kind of uniform – the summer suit. Who knew that they had a place even in the summer?

All in all, there was a whole list of references for inspiration, from the French cool of Deneuve in her films, a seventies vibe and even – who would have guessed – the Edwardian era. What you see is really what you get, and it’s so much fun! Like that last navy-and-brown colour-blocked sequinned one-shoulder dress that would be perfect for a balmy evening reception on vacation. Fun sits just great with me. It’s summer after all, let your hair down, sip a cocktail and wear whatever you fancy.

What I really, really fancy are those glace calfskin buckle shoes with huge platforms in crazy bright colours. Send me one in violet and I’ll cross the meridians, over the moon.
