With Louis Vuitton, Kim Jones paints a picture of a meticulously contemporary traveller holding dark secrets, a mountaineer with sleek urban elements of versatility. His only companion is the Lock-it Taurillon Voyage Bag, a metaphor the faithful beast of burden. All seeing, yet ever silent.
Jones’ collection sees the eternal traveller off to the Himalayan Kingdom of Bhutan. The mystical Snow Leopard has been given life through a commission of infamous sibling artists Jake and Dinos Chapman, known for their deliberately shocking imagery.
At the two-thirds mark we take a sinister turn, transitioning into black tie & loungewear, featuring a haunting embroidered floral motif by the Chapman brothers, a hellish garden filled with poison flowers. Scowling owls warn us to keep our distance, yet we draw ever closer.
I find it endlessly fascinating that everything has a hedonistic dark side. Do you ever wonder why we go to such lengths to hide it?
