From a man’s standpoint, it’s hard not to love how Miu Miu has brought the retrolicious feminine charm back to the runway.
With the advent of modern fabrics, palettes and cuts, there is a certain notion that the timeless vision of femininity, perpetuated by style icons such as Marilyn Monroe, has been relegated to the lookbooks of history. Miu Miu’s latest Fall Winter collection revisits the good old 70s’ with the androgynous, oversized pantsuit paired with gigantic collars and froufrou ties.
With the high fashion transposition of the boyfriend’s tee concept, Miuccia Prada implores women to have fun with what they wear. The pieces exude a spirit of youthful quirkiness tempered with decorum and poise from the golden age. Solid-coloured pieces range from double-breasted suits to suede tunic coats, while highlights feature Art Deco prints including floral, kaleidoscope, geometric, cubist and polka dot motifs.
My favourite look from the collection was the pantsuit with royal purple, red and gold peacock motifs, which brought to mind a grand vision of the magnificent bird grazing in a mystical Shangri-la.
