Jeremy Scott, the fashion harbinger of unabashedly mainstream aesthetic behind the label, is notorious for his impractical yet utterly addictive iPhone cases inspired by the unexpected everyday objects—think: McDonald’s french fries, your 5-year-old’s Barbie mirror, or even that shocking blue window cleaner spray every house has shelved. He’s plastered a Snickers logo on a dress, reimagined an intense Transformers battle scene on a suit, and created garbage-channeling couture infusing duct tapes and Kleenex boxes. There’s literally nothing Scott can’t turn into a fashion statement fitting to the pop-culture focused DNA of Moschino. And this time, the kitsch mastermind teams up with the mega famous gaming app Candy Crush for an inexorably sugar-coated collection.
You may have or may have not joined the obsessive Candy Crusher bandwagon, but you’d be living under a rock to have not heard of the game (I mean, who doesn’t spot at least three brow-furrowing, lip-biting baby boomers doing hardcore Candy Crushing on the train during peak hours?). And if games had their Kim Kardashians and Gigi Hadids, Candy Crush and its 70 over million likes on social media would be one of them — which is a succinct explanation as to why a Moschino collaboration naturally had to ensue.
Unveiled at an A-lister Coachella party involving Kylie Jenner to Katy Perry, the his-and-hers capsule collection is made to be festival-friendly. The collection comprises of a swimsuit, a pair of swim trunks, a backpack and an iPhone case, all spelling out “Moschino” in Candy Crush’s iconic puffy-loop typeface. In case you’re wondering why no crop tops or daisy dukes are included in the so-called festival range, Scott explained why, “We’ve got swimsuits, because, everyone’s going to be in a pool at one point or another at Coachella, or it’s going to be so hot you wish you were in a pool.” Well said.
